Is buying significantly cheaper than a stay at a hotel or other rental-type hospitality accommodation? Keith and I love our vacations, and we're fans of bargain-hunter booking sites like expedia and cheapcarribbean. You can compare pricing and reviews at the venue level and the regional level - answering questions like, is it cheaper to stay in Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, or Key West? There are last-minute deals, which are great if you're retired and flexible. And it also offers variety. For example, if you enjoy Atlantic coastal towns, have you checked out the Delaware beach towns? Rehoboth, Bethany, Fenwick? I lived with my aunt in Rehoboth one summer during college, and I worked at a teeny little craft store in a strip mall close to the beach. Those towns are smaller and less corporate than, say, Ocean City, MD (which, honestly, is also a cute place to stay - not all the venues are high-rise hotels.)

We should have taken advantage of the nice weather and taken down the outside Christmas lights. Now we are looking at frigid temps for at least a week.

I agree with browning chicken before putting it into the slow cooker. It keeps it juicier.

You're soup sounds nice, it is not how we would have Minestrone Soup here but this seems a much healthier version

I do like chick peas, but would omit the carrots!

I made a soup yesterday which was a green soup with brocolli, Cabbage and Kale. I love soup with bread as a lunch when I am working from home, and it is one of the few things that freezes well and it doesn't alter the taste or consistency too much when you defrost it.

I have not gone to a barber in years. My wife does a great job cutting hair, and like you, there's not a lot of time or work required to trim me up. The last time I went to a salon (there are no barbershops around here), it cost me fifteen bucks for about five minutes in the chair. My wife also had her hair cut at the same time for the same cost; she took half an hour of cutting, after she got her hair washed!

Here it's about $30. I'm looking forward to a haircut in Bangkok this week. Costs about $4.50.

Getting Down To Business

We had a pleasant kids' Christmas; it was calm and relaxing. Everybody enjoyed the food, and contrary to my worries, there was plenty to go around. I have succumbed to the nagging doubt that there won't be enough to eat, and that someone might go hungry. BTW: we're still eating leftovers from the day.

The kiddies loved their gifts. It's interesting to note the changes, though. Lenore's niece showed more appreciation for the clothing and jewelry she received than for the toyish/craftish gifts she used to love. We got her a locket, a daisy on a chain that opened to reveal an etched picture of Daisy. Daisy, in case you don't know, is their lovable ball of fluff. That gift was the subject of many pictures sent to her friends!

We've got Christmas decorations to take down, and the outside is done. I pushed to get it done yesterday. We're expecting rain and a drastic drop in temperature. Right now, an inflatable Rudolf is flashing his nose in the garage, drying out before I put him away until next year.

I'll be helping Lennie with the inside stuff, and then move onto my inside winter projects.
