Toe in the Water

A tentative blog to test the temperature.

Ten years ago I was writing several blogs on various subjects - F1 motor racing, Music, Classic Cars, Great Romances and, most crushingly, a personal journal that included my thoughts on America, memories of England and Africa, opinion, humour, writing and anything else that occurred. It all became too much (I was attempting to update the journal every day) and I collapsed, exhausted and thoroughly disillusioned in the end.

So this blog is indeed a Toe in the Water, a place to document my thoughts in and on WdC but with a determination not to get sucked into the blog whirlpool ever again. Here's hoping.

Being the first-born myself...

...and the first born grandchild on both sides...

...I later became the Black Sheep of the family, even disowned at one point (this was in the mid-70s, so that might shed some light on things!) because I was no longer "perfect" in my father's eyes. That did not last long, however, and I turned out just fine! (although I never lived up to my potential)

Meh, I don't know about that. I could tell tales of my three renegade half sisters I never met, or my mom's firstborn older sister who was a spoiled, temperamental fool, or... But that would be too personal. One has to be careful not to show primitive favoritism to the firstborn. Nuff said.

Yep ... same here. Not much rain, but the wind is horrible, bringing chill with it and the ground is already drying out before summer has a chance to.

Snow last week, 80 degrees this week and I found two mosquitoes in the house already BEFORE any windows have been opened. There are more bugs in summer, but they are more startling to run across when it's ony April.

The End of the World

The End of the World

I wrote a comment today on Damon Nomad’s newsfeed post about the latest asteroid that came close to hitting the earth. As my comment stated, I have become tired of the scientists’ constant attempts to induce panic in us because “the world is about to end.” My point being that, if the world really is about to end, then there’s nothing that can be done about it (or it wouldn’t be true in the first place). And it’s not just about asteroids. We have been told for decades that one thing after another is about to bring life on this planet to an end and yet, here we still are. In fact, we seem to be doing better than ever before.

The net result of all this fear-mongering is that science itself is becoming suspect. After all, how many times do events have to prove these theories wrong before we realise that it’s overstated to the point of hysteria. In biblical times they would stone false prophets. We’d all live happier lives if we resumed the practice.

Anyway, that’s my rant for the day.
