You can't compare the challenges faced
from one generation to another.
I went to school, and then college
But, you know, my mother
Had to fight to study on
After she married Dad
Dad's Mom wanted a stay-at-home-girl
To study more was bad.

Mom had to fight battles I never had to
She had paved the way
But then, I had stresses she never thought of
With competitive work and play.

So yeah, grandpa fought an actual war
We salute him as a hero
And Dad had his own ups and downs
But that doesn't mean the son is zero.

The son has the stresses of today
And they're just as real as theirs
Some are physical, some emotional
But each has his own cares.

The wars might be different now
They might not look as sinister
They might not need cavalries
And troops to administer

But they're battles all the same
And tough ones to fight
So don't downplay what young ones do
'cause that just isn't right.

Give every generation its due
In its own context, please
Let's not compare and contrast
Let's just live in peace.
