It certainly appears, particularly in the US (coming from my own perspective and I could be wrong about this), that there isn't a lot to laugh about. The pandemic, war in Europe and mass shootings are definitely a cause for concern, but I do wonder if these tragic events are reflected in the moods of the population at large.
Comedy tends to show up as black humor in various nooks and crannies of Instagram, at least from my perspective. That black humor is often linked to the more somber aspects of life. I even come across jokes that tie back to mass shootings (an event I'm starting to see get less and less press coverage as time goes by). So...it depends on the type of humor and the platform where it's being displayed.
Personally, I prefer my humor either super dry or ultra pervy. There's not a lot of middle ground. And sometimes I can combine the two. This could be a sign I watch too many British YouTubers, though. Such is life.
