Writing.Com provides the rating system to allow people to decide for themselves what they want to read and don't want to read. All publically visible areas of the site are kept to an E-rating. And I believe that non-members can adjust their rating filters, although they would have to do so each time they visit.

And if you're worried about children, then Writing.Com suggests that they always be supervised. Even items that are rated E may be incorrectly rated. Mods and Staff try their best to make sure things are correctly rated, but we're not omniscient.
