Hi ES,

Wonderful piece about the circular nature of inspiration! I followed the links. I loved the Rembrandt piece. It’s also good to remember that writers are artist. We don’t usually think about it that way—but we are. A nonfiction writer is just as much an artist, painting pictures of reality with words, as a photojournalist. And in the same way, we can take inspiration from artists in other mediums. When I’m writing about a villain, I love to watch movies where great actor bring out the nuances of pure evil on their face, in their gestures and swagger.
