saying stuff
by A Non-Existent User
I apologize in advance if this gets too ranty.

Is anyone else tired of authors who try to say stuff in their stories? Well, of course, everyone tries to say stuff in their stories, but I mean in the context of "higher truth," or whatever you'd like to call it. You know, like a fish representing the state of the economy in post world war two America, or whatever.

I mean, when did people get it into their heads that writers somehow have acess to any sort of higher wisdom? I mean, they can probably say it better and with more clarity and entertainment value, but I don't see how the job of the author is, as some would suggest, to reveal truth and suchlike. At least I never got the memo.

I'm trying hard not to sound like a student who's weary of literary theory and writing essays with really bad topics (although I am.) I would really like to know what other people have to say about this, because I've never really heard anyone do anything else but rant about this topic.
