I've always thought a few important commandments were left out. Maybe something was lost in the translation when God spoke to Moses. Maybe God didn't bother giving Moses the complete set the second time around after he broke the first set of tablets. I'm just making this up, of course, but seriously, there are some pretty universally excepted "thou shalts" that do not appear in the touted 10. Prohibitions against slavery and rape come to mind. In my humbly offering an additional 10 commandments, I haven't limited myself to those I imagine to be pretty universally excepted. Some of my items may not be endorsed by all. I hope we can state our beliefs and respectfully agree to disagree on items that might be controversial. Here they are. Please comment. I look forward to a lively discussion. My proposed additional 10. 1. Thou shalt endeaver to know me but thou shalt never truly know me. 2. Thou shalt not judge a people by the name and number of their gods but by whether they follow these commandments 3. Thou shalt not buy, sell, own humans; humans are anyone with whom it is possible to breed. 4. Thou shalt not allow men to rule over women or women over men. 5. Thou shalt not rape. 6. Thou shalt not make human sacrifices; humans are anyone with whom it is possible to breed. 7. Thou shalt not force into marriage any man, woman, or child. 8. Thou shalt not deny marriage between any two unmarried adults who desire union. 9. Thou shalt provide for thy children. 10. Rulers shalt serve their subjects just as subjects serve their rulers. The results to the accompanying poll "Invalid Item" will be posted here eventually. Marcia |
