Two gay flamingos have become proud foster parents after taking an abandoned chick under their wings. Carlos and Fernando were so desperate to have a family they started stealing eggs at the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust, Slimbridge, Gloucestershire. When one of the nests was abandoned, the egg was incubated and allowed to hatch by park staff. The newly hatched chick was put back in the shell, which was taped together and placed in the male pair's nest. Carlos and Fernando began "talking" to the chick as it pecked it's way through the shell a second time and have continued to care for it. The couple has been together for six years.
