Reviewing I really enjoy, rating not so much. I would definitely review more if those stupid stars weren't a part of the equation. I think most of us would. I've had low ratings before (lowest was an even 1 star) both with and without the benefit of a review. Doesn't bother me. Doesn't bother to give them either. I realize that everything I write isn't great, if it was, I wouldn't be here trying to get better. I also realize that some of the things I write aren't everyone's "cup of tea". When I run across something that's not my thing, I simply stop reading it. I wish others would do the same. There's no reason to trash someone's work simply because it's not the sort of thing you go for. Luckily, most of the bad reviews I get are very helpful. I got one yesterday in fact. I was very appreciative that the reviewer took the time to read the story and write the review to try and help me. When I see people complaining about "hate rating" though, I have to wonder this...have they ever considered the possibility that the piece just isn't any good? It happens all the time. Right now, the average rating on this site 4.3 stars. If that's accurate, we should ALL be on the bestsellers list. I'd say there's a lot more "love rating" going on. Seriously, the vast majority of the stuff on this site is average at best; even my stuff. I'll happily take a 1 star rating and a helpful review any day of the week.
