A place for adults to discuss writing and write intelligently on any topic, from E and up |
4.5 seems to be a safe ground for people. They liked the writing, maybe even REALLY liked it, but don't want to over-rate, since it is mentioned on here, often, not to - as in 'remember 3 stars is an average' and other things like that. And, as mention by EvilEgg (great name), some may recognize the quality of the writing but the style or voice or plot didn't entirely catch them. I'm not really angry about the rating system, or the way it is put together. I just think it doesn't apply well to an online writing community. Whereas reviewing seems highly useful to me - at least when the reviewer takes the time to go as in depth as possible. Things like a 2-word 'great story' review *feel* nice though they make me wonder why the person thought it great. |
