Charlygirl, Coming from Massachusetts, I think it's almost the opposite. If a politician is anti-choice or anti-gay he is at a political disadvantage many places. A gay man beat out our long standing state rep a few years ago and now he is our state senator. But you are right that in many other parts of the country things are different. I also cringe at the way conservatives try to take the moral highground on these issues. Those of us who disagree with them have just as high a moral commitment to our causes. It's not that we are indifferent to morality. It reminds me of a politcal cartoon that ran in the Boston Globe a few years ago. It showed a woman facing chewing out two men who wereholding political signs. The men's backs were to the viewers in the firsts panel, so you couldn't read what the sign said, but you could guess. The woman was saying: "If you perverts want to live the way you do, go ahead. Just don't expose me or my children to your disgusting ways." In the next panel the perspective is reversed so you see the sign. It says, "Gay Bashers Unite." Like I said before, one person's erosion of family values is another person's family. I have gay family members and I am proud of them. I have family members who have had abortions and I support them 100%, as do I those who have continued unplanned pregnancies.
