What I'm telling you is that life sometimes isn't really an option. Sometimes, there are literally no-win situations for women re: poor prenatal diagnosis in particular. In twin transfusion you could "choose life" and ultimately end up condemning both children to die (and in some cases the mother, too) whereas, if the unhealthy twin is removed the other may actually survive. If a woman is told her baby will have no head/brain (anencephaly) and her body is the only thing continuing the child's existence...what then? I'm sorry, it would be nice to just glibly say "choose life" and walk away but the fact is that the issue is too complex for that. |
