Hrm...that sounds a little different from how I remember ESOL in middle/high school. We had separate classes just for students in the program, so there was no "main class" to have time taken away from. As far as teacher tactics go, I can't say I know much at all. There's another sticky situation. Should immigrant children or children with English-speaking difficulties be put under the same sort of testing regiment that other, more established students have to take? Would that be fair?
