Here are a few of the things my grandmother Tiny Knuckles used. I miss her. For household burns: Mustard takes the sting right out of it. -Possibly because of the vinegar it contains as I read in an earlier post about the sunburn.- For re-occurring heartburn: Apple Cider Vinegar works miracles. I swear by it. I have acid reflux and after taking a prescription for a year saw no improvement. Six months of taking a tablespoon of vinegar a week and my doctor is asking me what I'm using so he can recommend it to other patients. For dry hair/split ends: Mayonnaise (not Miracle Whip) will condition your hair as well as anything you can buy and costs next to nothing. For allergies and cough: Mullen tea. It grows wild practically everywhere and can be flavored with honey and lemon. It sort of resembles a cross between lamb's ear and cabbage with big broad fuzzy leaves that grow low to the ground. For a sore throat: Raspberry tea with a liberal amount of honey added. For pimples: Toothpaste dries them right up. For dry skin: Shortening. If you want it to smell nice and have a smoother texture just add a few drops of your favorite perfume and some flour. Two tablespoons of flour to One cup shortening. Just don't go out in the sun if you have it on! For mild diarrhea: Bananas. They are a natural emulgent. For mild constipation: Apple Juice or Grape Juice. Just be careful not to drink too much too fast or you might be reaching for the bananas! For maintaining a healthy immune system: Garlic. Garlic is healthy in so many ways it's impossible to list them all, and it's a great spice. For drawing out a chest cold: Bathe in boiled onions. It stinks but it works. Just stew up a big pot and pour it into hot bath water then soak. (Make sure you retain the broth, it's the most important part) You'll smell like arm pits for a week but you'll feel great. That's about all I can think of off hand. Hope these help! Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one. -Albert Einstein |
