I just finished Stephen King's "The Shining", and as much as I dislike talking about King sometimes because he is who everyone talks about, there really is a reason.
This book was wonderful, scary, with so much dramatic tension between the Torrence family. In the foreword, King discusses the major difference between his novel and Kubricks film, which is essentially the idea that Jack Torrence is really a good man with an abused past, making his descension into madness all the more dramatic, whereas in the film Kubrick seems to focus more on the immediate madness of the situation.
I'm torn between which version I liked more however. Almost always I enjoy the book more, but I must admit that Kubrick added so many great ideas to the story, such as the Hedge Maze, the creepy little girls, and Jack Nicholsons violent performance. So I thought I would just see what everyone else thought about the comparison between the two. Thanks for reading.
