I too love the Lovecraftian mythos and I particularly enjoyed Re-Animator and From Beyond - both of these I searched out in the '80's after watching the films. He does have a specific style, all his own, and is the master of the crawling horror, where the words insinuate themselves into the very fabric of your body until, the slightest noise (a creaking floorboard) makes you wince and shiver with anticipation. I received the leather bound Necronomicon for Christmas - a large book of his best stories - that maybe my next read after the Peter Straub "Magic Terror". If you like Lovecraft's style you may also enjoy Ramsey Campbell - an English writer from Liverpool - who is also a great fan of Lovecraft and edited the New Tales of the Cthulhu Mythos - including Crouch End by Stephen King (which I must admit to not really liking). I'll give more on Lovecraft when I've read the book since I cannot remember too well the other book of his I read - it was over twenty years ago! ARGH!!! Come join me - We ALL Float Down Here.
