Convince me to read a book and win GPs! |
I haven't been on many road trips, but I'm guessing you want one that's interesting but that you can come back to if you can't read it for a few days. On the couple times I have travelled, I haven't had an over-abundance of time for reading. With that justification, I'm going to go with The Clan of the Cave Bear by Jean M. Auel. It's a very touching, character-driven book with great description - I really mean it, the imagery is amazing. The detail and research in it makes it a really rich book; professional researchers of earlier times (it's set in caveman times) have applauded her on that. There's a lot of subetly, excellent research and characters you can really mull over. However, the main plot itself is relatively simple: you won't have trouble picking it up and reading just a little at a time, or remembering all the things that are happening if you have a few days between readings. A good book to be interrupted while reading, although it is still very enjoyable to read. It's also the first of a four-part series.
