Writer's Fallout Shelter

Hi!

I don't know if this is the place to ask such a question, but I'll try:

My niece is 17 and writes poetry. She would like to publish and is considering self-publishing. I've already warned her about the costs and need for self-promotion, but wondered what others might add.

Also, has anyone worked with Dorrance Publishing? It looks legit, but undoubtedly has hidden costs, etc.
