Wow... there were only 2 entries for this contest. (YellowRoses' entry was for a different contest, so didn't count here)

After reading and re-reading the 2 entries, I find that I can't say that one is significantly better than the other. They both were well written, error-free, and moving. They both triggered an emotional response in me. So, I am splitting first place between both entries and calling a tie.
