What would you do in 1000 AD Europe?

"Spring comes and I quadruple my fields. I purchase..." I'm not sure why or how this narrative assumes you would be incredibly, wildly, more successful at farming than your neighbors? Sure it sounds like you have some plans to survive, but this part of the plan reminds me of the internet meme "do x, do y, ???, profit!"

I don't want to be a humbug, and I appreciate your well written answer to this. I'm just saying, I don't think life was as easy as 1, 2, 3...
