I have made a villain my protagonist in one or two short stories, but never in a novel. In my novel-to-be I'm planning to give more emphasis and possibly more pages to the bad guy.
Usually, in fiction, the good one is the protagonist and the rotten one the antagonist. In Shakespeare, in general, Othello is considered to be the protagonist. Yet, those who know more about these things, consider Iago as the protagonist since he is the stronger character.
