Drink a glass of warm milk. I hear that is supposed to calm nerves. ..... Or is that to help you get to sleep? I can't remember. Seriously, I "Sort of" know what you are going through, if watching my mother turn into a nervous wreck whenever I go to the doctors for a battery of tests to check up on my brain damage, or my brain tumor, or checking vision and hearing to see if I lost anymore.... etc, etc. I've never really worried about these problems, despite how grim the prognosis might sound. But one thing that works for my mother that I tell her to do, is to just take like five minutes and... don't think. Close your eyes, put on some instrumental music, or the sounds of a babbling brook or whatever works, and clear your mind. Whenever thoughts of all those things that make you worry pop into your head, just tell them to go away. That the rest of the day you will fret over them, but this is your time. Find a positive moment, a happy memory, whatever, and let it fill your head. You have 23 hours 55 minutes to make yourself a mess over all these things you "have" to do and all these things that you have no control of and can do nothing about. But for those 5 minutes, you control it all. it makes the rest of the crazy day and the nerves seem not so serious or "immediate" she says. allowing her to think more rationally. |
