A month-long novel-planning challenge with prizes galore. |
My favorite part about writing a novel is choosing names for my characters and creating their persona's. And it's funny, the novel I was working on last year, I tried to rewrite it for Love Inspired, and they don't like "different" names, which I'm particularly famous for liking. Anyway, my main character's name was Passion. And must of the story was based on that name. Her personality came out from that name, and her friends identified her with that name and her free spirit. So, when I tried to just change the name, the story didn't work the same. So, I have to create names and persona's early on, and then step into the character. Don't ask me change them midstream... It's going to be a whole different story if you do. At a writing conference I attended last spring, that was a big piece of advice that a bestselling author gave. Step into the roll of your main character and tell the story from his/her perspective, and not your own perspective. Maybe that piece of advice will help someone else on here. Am I the only person obsessed with names/personas? Sincerely, Marci Missing Everyone
