The story may be set more than 50 yrs in the future, but I think that seems okay. Lucy is the main character.

My tentative idea is the story starts with Lucy's accident, during which we see flashbacks of her as healthy Lucy. Lucy has been given a gifted pet which transforms her post-accident life. However, political changes and austerity mean gifted pets are being made obsolete. The conflict lies because Lucy doesn't give up her gifted pet, she goes against the system. Other than that...I hope Prep will help with. Does that sound something like a starting point (obviously things may change as I progress through October!)?
