A month-long novel-planning challenge with prizes galore. |
October prep for NaNo is more than developing your characters and creating outlines, it's also about getting your life in order for when the book consumes your soul next month. What sort of things do you need to do this month? 1. Clean house. Chores will be one of the first items next month to get the ax, so get some deep cleaning done now while you have the chance. 2. Prepare meals. If you're the cook in your house, look up recipes for meals you can make and freeze. Or start clipping pizza coupons now. 3. Get supplies. Nothing ruins a good writing buzz like running out of ink, or sticky notes, or note cards, or anything else you need. Take time this month to stock up your writing area with all the little things you need to keep the words flowing. 4. At the end of the month, stock up on snacks, coffee, etc. 5. Spend time with your loved ones this month. Go to a movie, get coffee with a friend, take the kids to the park. That way you won't feel so guilty when you ignore them all next month. 6. Say goodbye to your loved ones. Explain now what they should expect of you next month. Hint: not much, you will be off in another world after all. Take some time to show your love for them, and promise that after NaNo fever passes, you'll be your caring, loving self once more. There are other things, but this list is enough to get you started for now. Be sure to extend your prep to all areas of your life, not just your book. |
