Genius solution! Sometimes you just have to step back and think about the situation logically. Thinking about it, I would probably be bothered if my dishes didn't match too. I have a set of six plates/bowls/cups and they're all the same pattern and style. Having six different ones would be weird, BUT if I had two of each that would be a different story for whatever reason.
