Ooh, am I the more damaged one in this scenario?

I personally see a lot of value in your approach. I don't think of you as cold at all. I've known you for, what, 4 years now? There have been times when I thought you were being harsh with me in the moment, but I've always realized after the fact that you were just trying to help me calm down.

I mean, it might not work as well for some of the other disorders out there, but for borderline personality disorder, I can be calmed down. I just have to be approached in the right way. If I'm not, then I'll spiral even further. But, see, you know that because you've looked into the mental disorders that your past friends and exes have had. The fact that you're willing to do research on a disorder you don't even have speaks volumes, in my opinion.

Good support systems balance each other out. That's why when I have a meltdown, I text you and vice versa. Mine might be, like, absurdly more frequent than yours, but it still works as far as I can tell. I recall your last one being in mid-November, but it's actually kind of cool that you found a kindred spirit in your future committee chair. Obviously not the kinda kindred spirits you want, but you know, that's a strong bond/understanding to have with someone.

Anyway, the point is, I think you downplay your value as a supporter. Not everyone needs a support system of shoulders to cry on. Some people do need practical, objective advice. Some people just need a completely different perspective altogether. I for one don't know what I would do without your support. I can only imagine you'll be equally helpful with others.
