Under Construction - MHWA Retreat

Hmmm... if your chair thinks the IRB will be done with it over the summer, then yeah... should be doable. Looks like your time frame will be better than mine, actually. I'm planning on 2 weeks maximum for data collection.

Just got my documents to the IRB last week (was waiting on a letter from my organization permitting the research). So, I won't get the approval until mid-March probably. And I need to...


collect the data
do the analysis (which for qualitative is time-consuming as hell)
write the other half of my thesis (which is also much longer for qualitative usually)
send it to my committee with enough time for them to review it
defend my thesis
make any necessary changes
get it deposited by April 27


So... I'll have like 6 weeks or something to do ALL of that. Maaaybe 7 weeks? And of course, I have classes during that time too. Aside from some busy work that's timed out and a final exam, I should be able to finish one class before I start the research. The other though is a stat class... it's week-to-week. He won't even given us the homework until a week prior to its due date.

Anyway.. good thing I'm super great at managing my time, huh?

It is probably a good idea to go with one to start with and see how it goes with the literature review. How many and what quality of articles you get. Then see where you're at time-wise. I'd have loved to do my original plan too, but I knew I had to ax it for the time being. It happens.

So yeah... you're welcome! Good luck with the lit review! I'm sure it'll go fine. And remember... your committee chair is your best resource really. It's better to find out if there's a problem early than late.
