Interesting responses, Elizabeth! The media loves to play reruns of horrifying clips after a mass shooting because they love to build people's fears. I was watching an interview with one of the news stations and the guest called the anchor out on the station having a "victim's scoreboard" of mass shooting that had them ranked by the number of deaths. On one hand, statistics are interesting so it's not necessarily bad information to know, but at the same time it's so obvious that they're trying to dare people to beat the high score.
