Well said, Andie. We definitely agree on this topic. What's funny to me is the people who immediately blame mental illness for such events, but vote to defund mental healthcare. It's baffling. If they really thought mental illness was to blame, wouldn't they want to increase mental healthcare? I'm pretty sure the issue is that they want guns at all cost, both because their voter base wants guns at all cost and because they're getting money from the NRA.

Like you, I definitely feel stigmatized when I hear absurd opinions about mental health issues following events like this. I've heard multiple people in person say that people with a mental illness should just be killed and/or locked away forever. The comments are borne of a combination of anger and ignorance, but it doesn't make it any less shameful.
