As well, I know exactly what you are saying. I loved my youngest kids dad, but I couldn't stand him. Every time he spoke, I would roll my eyes or grunt or something negative, but I did love him and care about his well being. (I think only because we had two kids together) So I do think it is possible to love someone but also not to like them very much. I think it's more of not liking their behaviors really, which is a part of them so, yeah. I just know that I know what you're saying and I understand completely. You may end up like me and one day decide you've had enough, (which it sounds like you were almost there when you stood up to him) and leave.
Sounds like your daughters can and will hold their own against him so you shouldn't beat yourself up about that.
