BoM/TWS Message Forum

So as I say, it's been a long time since I've looked at SB. My jotted down reactions:

1. My own chapters weren't as bad as I feared they'd be. Which was a pleasant surprise until I thought, "That was at least 3 million words ago. You mean I haven't gotten that much better?" That said, I shouldn't have used the past perfect tense in the Prologue. Or I should have used it only in the first paragraph, then switched to the present.

2. I am now so anal about continuity that I had to edit the first chapter to move Fort Suffolk to the northern side of the Wilderness, where according to my current-day maps it resides.

3. I sure liked the name "Caleb" as the name of the protagonist's best friend, since I use it here and in BoM both.

Mostly I remember why I switched from SB to BoM. It's awfully hard to write for multiple characters who are being possessed simultaneously. And David is so overpowered that it's very hard to come up with challenges and failures to propel a story.

But I really enjoyed the chapters that you guys added. Very nicely written with good characterization and some effective descriptions of possession scenes. In my freewriting time I'm currently scribbling out some BoM chapters, but when I'm done with the storyline I'm composing I might actually try appending a short branch to SB, just to see how I do with it.
