Thanks for the plot description. It sounds about like what I would have expected from a movie whose plot is "kids save the world with futuristic gizmos, one of which is a mask." In other words, a little action to set up the mask, a little action to show its usefulness outside the plot, and a little action where it actually solves a plot point. I assume each of the other gizmos got equivalent treatment. That would be the professional way of handling things.
