I enjoyed the book but it made me feel sad for Kya. Although she finally ended up with the person she definitely should have, I can't help but feel bad for her because of all the heartache she suffered. One thing I liked about the story is that she died before Tate did. Not that he deserved that, but Kya had suffered so with abandonment.
I felt bad for Tate because his family, including Kya, all died. I was so angry with him for not coming back to Kya during his college life.
One place I cried is when Jodie came back. I think it's a mark of a good writer when they can invoke such emotion from their reader.
I wish the story would have had more happiness, but it was true to life, in my opinion. I can't imagine parents leaving their child(ren) alone to fend for themselves, especially one as young as Kya was when her dad, the last of her family, walked away.
