I think the key here is what the golem is made from.

Although I will add another question into that: what would happen if you used a mask on a corpse? If you donned it would you look undead? Cold to touch? Would you breathe, or appear to breathe? Or wouldit simply not work?

Those answers probably help with the golem choice.
