Don't 100% quote me on this, but I'm pretty sure my original intention with the phrase 'sleeping on the banks of the Acheron' was intended to perform a similar function to purgatory, or to the idea that those that couldn't pay Charon's toll had to wander the banks for a hundred years: It's a prepatory step about coming to terms with what happened in your life before passing on.

Though there are some cases where individuals might get brought back - I know I've written one - I think most sleepers get given an obol and pointed in the direction of the river when they awake.

Though I heard some kid named Stella runs the ferry now...
