I agree with imaj. It’s almost expected to put aspects of yourself into characters that you write. Those are the things that you would reasonably have the most knowledge about and thus find easiest to write about. At least that’s how I started as a writer. Used what came natural to me, added some twists till writing about those twists became natural and so on.
