You'll have no trouble finding posts re current events in the Community Newsfeed, which you can get to by clicking on the Newsfeed link on the left-side navigation bar, then click the View the Community Newsfeed button. Political stuff shows up there from time to time, but you can find articles, stories, etc. with at least some political basis by clicking on the Browse By Genre button at the lower left, then scroll down to Political and click on that; I'm sure you'll find something of interest.
