Sorry I have not posted. I have had a big project that has come up that has consumed my time, and also I struggle with the BoM universe; I’ve never had a solid grasp of some of the mechanics, and I haven’t read the vast majority of it so when someone mentions a lot of the characters I don’t know who they are. The Test Department line is one I feel embarrassed about. I wrote it (along with Masks Need Moms etc) as I was frustrated Will never considers using the masks to escape the cauldron of high school life. Why be a cheerleader or jock and put up with the limits you have when you could literally run a town, be a movie star, be the queen of England etc. However, Marion Pruitt feels badly drawn, and a misunderstanding of descriptors and information led to a terrible characterisation of numerous characters, not lead her brother. The whole married thing doesn’t land either, even if it was going to lead to a Fane plot (I’d mapped that as leading to Will’s Sulva side emerging.) As for St X, the ending I had created stalled as I wasn’t sure if Seuzz wanted two options in case people wanted to go the Will route. The plan was to actually continue the story by rewinding and explaining how the girls got the book (while leaving it open as to where in that chain they got it, so people could explore that), and how, over several chapters, everything they told Will was, as you could surmise by the mask not containing a memory band, utter bullshit. They were setting him up. The problem is I don’t think there’s a lot of enthusiasm for a St X line. I also feel uncomfortable about writing anything to do with Sherri Watson; she does create a new dynamic in relationship but I don’t think I could stick the writing of her character, and anyone using or planning to use a mask on her is doing it for a sinister long game. Even if Will protected her, it would suggest his opponents have the Book, and thus you’re in a paranoia storyline that again, I don’t think I could pull off. Honestly, the BoM seems to work best when it is Will doing the face swapping, and it’s beyond my abilities. |
