I do, too. I have received a lot of good advice from writing. But one thing I feel like English and creative writing folks forget is that these things are quite subjective.
If you look at reviews on amazon or goodreads, one thing you can notice is that there are people who have five-star ratings on the book. They loved it, they couldn't say enough about it, and they think this author is their favorite. But then again, there are folks who think the exact opposite.
I have changed the beginning of one of my stories multiple times. There are so many places you could start. But right now, for the first draft, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Of course, you want some semblance.
But I feel like beginnings are something you need to discuss with betas and critique partners.
Also? As you revise the story and understand it more, it could change. And that's okay.
