You could always roll a die. Instead of Zombie it's 1-dragon, 2- werewolf, 3-vampire, 4-sleezy humanoid car salesman, 5- sexy new love interest who has no business being interested in the MC or 6-a phoenix sets everything on fire, including random character you didnt want to be more than a footnote in the novel.

Let me know if your die has more than 6 sides...
