I think they have become my favorite pairing in the entire BoM universe (just slightly edging out Will and Chelsea). Let me preface what I'm about to say with "this is just my opinion so take it for what it's worth." The majority of the time when Will and Chelsea are paired together I feel like Will is pushing Chelsea towards being a better person (usually). In that pairing, Chelsea's good side is always brought to the forefront by her interactions with Will which is why she develops feelings towards him (usually). Being with Will, and under the masks, removes her social status and allows Chelsea's real personality to come through (usually). I get the feeling that if Chelsea weren't as pretty as she is and as preoccupied with how people view her, she might have wound up being somewhat similar to someone like Jenny. On the other hand, I feel like Sydney pushes Will towards becoming a villain. If Will is the angel on Chelsea's shoulder, Sydney is the devil on his. I think Sydney's affection for Will is completely legitimate, I don't think she's faking that she's in love with him. But I think a big part of why she's in love with him is because Will is more than willing to go along with her intrusive thoughts. I think that's why I like this pairing so much. I often wonder what I would do, and how I'd act, if I was given this type of power. I think this version of Will is most relatable to me because, like him, I don't think it would be too much of a stretch for me to become a villain if the right person was pushing me in that direction. I had these thoughts in my head since Monday after reading the chapter about Will getting back at Caleb (and I really really hope that chapter gets a story line attached to it at some point). |
