Strangely enough, I don't see it as a horror tale, but these kind of stories exasperate me because of the jarring change of POV and because they all press Will into not removing the band, therefore keeping things. I can understand why it'd be a horror story (the duality of someone else's personality being forced into you, scared and confused, while your own personality is suppressed), but the two stories I've seen where Will willingly (no pun intended) puts on an anima band of someone else almost always ends on a "help, my soul has been switched with this rando" scenario. (The difference is that, in the other scenario, Will is working alone and puts on the anima band of a girl.) Masktrix's scenario where Will is turned into a golem and used by the Heathers, IMO, is a more horrific scenario because someone else forces it on Will, and because you see the helplessness of acting as someone without being able to see him recover. It's almost similar to that branch where Will "recalls" having been Robert, and his brother's friends using him and stuff, with all the confusion coming from not being sure what's happening. I would've liked seeing one of the other scenarios, where the anima band is tested on a controlled situation - where Caleb puts the anima band on Will or someone else, but they agree to remove it after a while regardless of what happens. Or maybe the other personality trying to negotiate to look for help with Will's associates working on the spell - perhaps having the associates claiming "this" Will is better and therefore keeping the personality along for some time, maybe even experimenting with the golems to make an ally after the copied anima acquaints to them. I guess, ultimately, that the reason I don't see it horrifying is because the technicalities of how it works would distract me. |
