''There was a girl, who every day went by a lake to read. One of those day she saw a boy in the lake. She called out,and the boy looked at her, frightened, and dissapeared beneath the water. The girl stood up from where she'd sat beneath a tree to look for him underwater. Just then, a swan appeared, at the same place the boy had been. The girl blamed what she had seen on the heat. Until she saw him again, splashing around with the swans the next day. She called out again, and the boy dissapeared for the second time, a swan surfacing in his place again. The girl followed the swan with her eyes, seeing it come up to the end of the lake and watch her. A mad idea went through her head just then. She felt that swan was actually the boy. She went as close to him as she could without scaring him away, and began to read her book aloud. The other birds paid her no mind, but the one remained. She spend hours reading to the bird every day for weeks. Until one day, when she went to the lake, the boy was waiting. This time when he saw her, he didn't dissapear. She didn't know what to do, but the boy just looked at the book in her hand expectantly, and she sat down and began to read. Every day the same routine repeated. Until one day the girl got sick and didn't go to the lake. That day, she got a knock on her door, and found the lake boy standing on her doorstep.'' ''Then what? Did he speak to her?'' asked Anya impatiently. Her mother looked at the clock and shook her head mysteriously " Nobody knows what happened.'' |
