A mix of fetish, horror and character study for me. Most fetish fiction that revolves around stealing an identity usually have the MC act a bit out of character of the person they impersonate, sometimes there's no impersonation at all. The level of detail that goes into the impersonation in BoM is a major attraction for me, how they adopt to their situation and if they can use it to their own advantage. There's also the horror and moral dilemma of using the SLP. The SLP itself is structured as a number of tests, especiallly the second golem spell that requires a body. How far will the people using the SLP go for their ambitions and how does that shape them and affect those around them? If there's something I'd wish be offered more of, it would be in the form of character study in how someones mind affects the one they're currently impersonating. There's alot of times where the personality being worn has to be suppressed, but what if their own emotions instead amplify with the ones of their current impersonation and makes them lose it, do something really drastic and irreparable before they realize what they're doing. |
