First of all, it's great that you are asking these questions, thinking critically about the publishers reach and the finances of the whole thing. Too many authors fall into the traps of predatory publishers because they don't do this. I know nothing about Christian publishers, so their part of the business my be somewhat different, but generally, I would be wary of any publisher asking for money from the author. From what I've seen, that usually means their income comes from authors and not from selling books. As S 🤦 ![]() Even if they are well meaning and not predatory, it's very unlikely they will have much of a reach and can sell the books to most bookstores. This isn't different from most small trad publishers, but there at least, it's the publisher who takes the financial risk, not the author. Again, Christian publishing might be different, what with them having a TV network and such... Still, if it was me, I would not bet on it. |
