I haven't been ignoring these posts I made -- I've been checking in every day -- but I went thru a GI/diet reset over the last week that tore up my insides and left me in no fit state to do anything except the absolutely necessary, so I feel like I'm late getting back to these. My own personal takeaway from the suggestions and reflections above is that the potential protagonists become less interesting the more specific their desires are. Someone like Chelsea would only really do one thing with the masks, and so there's really only one story to tell. On the other hand, though, those like Meghan Faris, who have a more general kind of problem (lack of a desired popularity, e.g.) are more similar to Will and hence not really distinct from him as a different protagonist. I guess the question and the answers reinforce my own sense that Will is more or less the ideal protagonist for this kind of story, and that others with more specific goals/purposes are best introduced as partners, the way Chelsea was introduced as a partner. The one "partnership" that would be VERY trick to introduce, though, would be the kind that WondrousDream contemplates. BoM already treads dangerous ground with its high school setting. Will partnering with an adult who uses the masks to age regress I think would have to be played for overt horror. That could be an intriguing challenge ... |
