That's a good point, it being out of fashion would date Kali, who I think has lived in California for some time. That said, the word technically means 'an effeminate man'. Which is ironically correct for Will, pretending to be Kali. But maybe not a term Kali herself would actually use - she's far too nice to. I would typically use feartie, usually combined with big to get big feartie. You might find this link useful: https://dsl.ac.uk. Which is about as official as it gets, but doesn't really cover any of the gramatical wierdnesses. Nobody in Scotland actually speaks Braid Scots, and only some people actually speak English. Most people speak a mix of both, with more or less Scots words depending on the individual. You can dump in some words, and the only people that will really find it wierd are people like me who will wonder why one word is in Scots but other ones in the same sentence are not. Last point: Legally, it's a language not a dialect. Getting that wrong will offend some people. On the other hand, getting it right will offend a different set of people. Go figure... |
