A couple things:
If you were to format your story on WdC, then copy and paste the completed version over to Google Docs, it
should keep the same formatting as the WdC version.
Another thing is that a lot of people don't do indents and such on WdC. It can be a nuisance to type {indent} every paragraph, especially for longer works. So a lot of authors will simply put a blank line between paragraphs with no indents. Of course, that isn't the way a published story would be typically be formatted, but it's easier and is accepted on WdC. It can also make the story easier to read on a laptop/mobile device.
As for italics... Google Docs itself does not have a way to search for font formatting. However, if you download the document and use Microsoft Word, you can press ctrl + h will pull up a "Find and Replace" bar. Leave the bar blank, select "more," then "format," then "font." Under "font styles" there should be an "Italics." If you leave the box blank, and select italics, it should highlight all text in your document that is italics, which will make it easier to fix to add your WritingML italics ({I}your italicized text here{/i}).
Alternatively, if you don't have Microsoft Word, you can download an extension to Google Docs called "Advanced Find and Replace" which should give you the option of searching for italics directly in your Google Doc.
None of this fixes your issue, but hopefully can help you re-format a little quicker for posting on WdC. Of course, certain things like italicized text should be formatted. But even if you just copy/paste your work onto WdC and the actual paragraph/line formatting doesn't stick... most people will look over that, as this is a site to share work, and not the site to be the formatting police.

Though, some people do prefer a larger font.
I'll leave you with this novella, and hopefully it helps somewhat.
